BECOME A GODPARENT, GIVE A CHILD A FUTURE

By taking over a godparentship you give a child hope – and a future.

Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world today. Access to education is still insufficient. Existing school classes in the free, state schools are often overcrowded. So it is not uncommon for a school class to have between 180 and 200 schoolchildren. For teachers, these large classes represent a major challenge.

Attending a public school is subject to a fee, but offers many advantages:

Much smaller classes, which means better care for the children..

the children receive their own school books, whereas in state schools they receive warm meals every day.

In larger towns there are day schools, which are a little cheaper than the boarding schools. Often, however, the children live so remotely that they cannot travel to school every day, which is why they live in a so-called boarding school.

A godparentship above all to save children from child labour. Furthermore, basic medical care is guaranteed, for example against malaria.

A godparentship is a special way to help a child in a meaningful and effective way. Currently, sponsorships cover the costs of 15 children. We are not interested in an accumulation of sponsorships, but in their sustainability. Our medium-term goal is to support these children until the end of their education (apprenticeship, secondary school, maybe even university studies) so that they can live independently in the long term thanks to their education and possibly help other people themselves. We are not changing the big world, but we hope to make a big difference in small things.

We inform you on a regular basis

We will keep you regularly informed so that you can witness the progress of your sponsored child. This will give you an insight into the life of your sponsored child and help you see what you are donating for. The family and the child’s environment are always involved.

Thanks to a good school education, we hope that these children will become responsible adults who can take their lives into their own hands and in turn help shape and change the future in the country where they live.

We will ensure that your donation is used 100% for your sponsored child and not to cover other needs within the family. The funds are earmarked for a specific purpose.

  • You will receive photos of your god child
  • We regularly inform you about the child, its environment, school, etc.
  • The godparentship can be cancelled at any time.

Various Sponsorships

Partial Godparentship:
Various sponsors support one child with monthly contributions. The sponsors do not necessarily have to know each other.

Full Godparentship:
1 Sponsor supports a child from 90.- up to 120.- CHF/Month.

School Fees differ, because:

  • secundary school is more expensive than primary school,
difference between boarding school or day school
  • Dar es Salaam is much more expensive than rural areas

often school bus fees have to be paid

Current Examples

As always, Isabella visited the sponsored children at home or at school, because on the one hand contact with them, with parents (if available) and with teachers is important. These are always very touching moments, because by now the children know Isabella and she is received really joyfully. They talk about themselves, about the school, show their diplomas to her, have many questions … it is nice to be together with them and to dive into their lives a little bit.

The parents and caregivers are grateful, because they all live in great poverty. The children are developing well, are very motivated and are diligently learning. Sofia, for example, when Isabella asked her if she was enjoying the school holidays, Sofia said: “no, I prefer going to school, I can learn many exciting things there, and I want to learn a lot and know a lot”. This is how almost all the godchildren react.

The schools are also good for the children in that they are supervised, receive food and those parents, or the many single mothers who have a small job, can do so without the children being left to themselves.

Some of the kids will take their secondary school exams there. If they pass this exam, they will be able to change schools. This means higher school fees in addition to uniform, shoes and school materials. So we are still dependent on support.

GOAL FOR SPONSORSHIPS

2021

Again, the first priority is to secure long-term support.

We have achieved this goal in 2021 thanks to the great supply of our donators.
