FAMILY SPONSORSHIP FOR INDEPENDENCE
Family Sponsorships cover the basic needs of an entire family
With a family sponsorship we secure the basic needs of a family
Families form the backbone of any society. If one family is very poor, everyone suffers, but especially the children.
Violence, neglect, abuse and alcohol are often a possible consequence of poverty. This results in a great hopelessness, which often leads to crime
Many families live from “hand to mouth”. On the other hand, there are many single mothers, and the children are, for various reasons, often left to their own devices. The great number of unemployed men is an additional problem.
We encourage the independence of the family
The goal of a family sponsorship is to start right there and to support the independence of families. This can happen on different levels. The functional principle of family sponsorship is based on joint action and solidarity. This means that one family member receives support while another one provides his or her own labour elsewhere. This results in synergy effects that extend beyond the family.
In joint reflection with the families, the goal is to find possibilities which can improve their life in the long term. The goal is a general and above all sustainable improvement of the living conditions.
Our long-term goal is for the parents to be able to earn a small but regular income themselves.
Family Sponsorships are goal oriented and sustainable projects
They should give families the possibility to break out of the cycle of poverty and provide the basis for an independent everyday life.
We support a family for a few years. The goal is that the families find and achieve a sustainable basis for improving their income and living situation during the time of the
Current Examples
Example Jonas;
Jonas is a family man of 4 daughters. He has no school diploma. With the high unemployment in Tanzania, it is even more difficult for people like Jonas to find a job.
We know of a school that is currently under construction. This means that their financial means are also limited. But there is no lack of work. We have an agreement with the school that we will share Jonas’ salary with them. In this way we support not only Jonas but also the school. And Jonas does not just receive money, he works for it, which increases his self-esteem.
Example Joyce;
Joyce is a 17 year old girl, who would like to learn to be a seamstress. Her parents are poor and cannot afford the costs of the training. Our philosophy is that parents can still make an active contribution by working. For example, the mother works on a daily basis at the school where Joyce is completing her apprenticeship as a seamstress, thus making a significant contribution to her daughter’s education.
